Aloha from Kona on March 24th, 2003

Caravan News

Each Thursday morning I attend the Kona Board of Realtors’ Caravan of newly listed homes in and around Kona. I will attempt to highlight one or two of these homes for you each week to give you a sense of what is new on the market and some tidbits about the neighborhoods and condos I’m seeing.

The last Kona Board of Realtors’ Caravan took us south of Lako. For those of you familiar with Kona, you will recognize the Lako and Queen K intersection as being the home of the Chevron and sort of the “center of the universe” so to speak. Most verbal directions seem to involve this intersection!

Two homes in Keauhou View Estates were notable. Both are 3 bedroom, 2 bath homes listed for 419K. The first contains 1,395 square feet of living space and is beautifully decorated with the furnishings available separately. It is air conditioned and sits on a 9,217 square foot lot. The really unique feature of this home is a Polynesian style Hale and Koi pond located toward the rear of the property. What a wonderful place to entertain friends! The second home totals 1,378 square feet and has an additional wrap lanai. This home features vaulted ceilings, a solar roof fan and a fenced and landscaped yard. Keauhou View Estates would be a great neighborhood for a family or for those of you wishing to have a yard of a manageable size. The neighborhood is extremely well maintained and has sidewalks for safety. The feeling there is one of security and order.

Shopping

For those of you in love with bookshops, I have found a treasure! Middle Earth Books is located behind Ambrosia in the Kona Plaza and is open from 9-9 daily. We visited on Sunday afternoon and were delighted by the extent of the Hawaiiana collection and the large maps. I found books that I’d been looking for and not found at Borders. The shop is larger than it looks from the outside. In addition to excellent sections on travel, professional topics, history and fiction, there is a nice children’s corner. Check it out! I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this jewel of a shop.

A Special Treat

The Chocolate Festival to benefit the Kona Pacific School was held this past Saturday at the King Kam and drew a large crowd. Champagne, beer and scrumptious chocolate delicacies were the order of the day and, if smiles were any indication, thoroughly enjoyed by all. The most unusual entry was the white chocolate macadamia nut butter. Better find something to put this on; it would probably make cardboard scrumptious! The Chocolate Festival is a yearly event, so plan your trips for March! Or better yet, move over here before the next one rolls around.

Enjoy your week, wherever you are, and remember: if the islands are calling you, be sure to call me!

Aloha,
